The VCAT appeal from Developer LPD Property has been heard for the former Tip Top Bakery in Edward Street Brunswick East. The developer requests a height of 10-storey be allowed (instead of the permitted 7), and to begin basement works (including concreting) before an EPA audit is complete against council wishes. The hearing that included three-week-gap, ended on Wednesday February 16th. A result is expected in one month from that date. LPD ‘s legal team (QC and Barrister) used extra time it had over other parties to prepare counter-arguments to Council and Objector submissions. Joanna Stanley who represented residents at the hearing, says “if VCAT allows an unprecedented doubling of the 5-storey preferred height on the Tip Top site, it may set a precedent for the other 150-plus sites earmarked for 5-storey buildings in Brunswick.”
Welcome
This is a site for residents of Brunswick, Melbourne to object to, and publicise the impact of large housing developments on their quiet inner city streets.
This site started in May 2010 as a forum for residents to object to a ten-storey proposal at the former Tip Top bakery.
Concerns raised since then by many other local developments has resulted in a broader network of residents' groups. This site will hold information on both the Tip Top site and broader issues affecting the Brunswick. The main issues include character loss and traffic congestion.
